Castlewellan Dolmen (Northern Ireland) — Neolithic Dolmen Recreation

This sculptural work is a recreation of Castlewellan Dolmen, a Neolithic portal tomb located near Castlewellan in County Down, Northern Ireland, dating to approximately 3500 BC.

The structure consists of two substantial upright stones supporting a massive horizontal capstone, forming a classic portal dolmen configuration. While today the monument appears exposed, archaeological evidence suggests it was originally covered by an earthen mound, with the stone framework serving as the burial chamber beneath.

This recreation was assembled using carefully selected natural stone to echo the proportions, balance, and material character of the original monument, reflecting both the ceremonial intent and structural ingenuity of early Neolithic societies in Ireland.
