Echoes of Youbou — A Commissioned Work

Commissioned by Wayne and Kimberly Farey for their Youbou, British Columbia lake home — a place they have cherished for eighteen years.

Every material in this piece was chosen with deliberate intention, sourced directly from the land and history of the Youbou region:

✦ Seasoned Red Cedar base wrapped with an original Youbou mill saw blade
✦ Slate cut to represent the mountain range surrounding Cowichan Lake
✦ Cored Vancouver Island marble representing the solidness and permanence of Wayne and Kimberly
✦ Cypress wood carved to represent the fish of the lake
✦ Two railway ties honoring the mill railway that once ran through their property
✦ Two magnetic steel ball bearings sealed inside a circular saw blade ring — representing their inner circle

"Through our meeting and conversation Don created Echoes of Youbou, which captured the raw beauty of the region along with the natural resources the area has provided for the past 200 years. Our vision has been completed through Echoes of Youbou."
